Mixtape:
Ooouuu by Young MA
I chose this song because it has a good beat to it and I like the way the songs flows. The words really fit the beat. One thing about this song that I never knew before was that a girl sings it. I had always thought it was a boy because it really sounds like one. The lyrics of this song make me feel better and make me feel more relaxed. I enjoy listening to this song with my friends.
Blessings by Big Sean ft. Drake
I chose this song because it expresses all the good things in their life and how they feel about their life. It talks about the good things in life and when I listen to the song it makes me more confident and motivated. I think of all the positives instead of all the negative things going on in the world. Big Sean and Drake really express their feelings and the beat to the song makes it even better.
No Tellin by Drake
I chose this song because Drake reflects on becoming famous and slowly realizes that he is famous. The effect on his voice is cool as well. I like the dark but simple beat and Drake’s up and down rapping. I also like the Rick Ross samples in the middle of the song, and the line when Drake says “I mean we hear about the money you be gettin' but we just never see a visual.
It's our year.” This highlights the problems of the rap game a bit. I also enjoy the switch in the beat to a bit happier, optimistic take at the end of the song.
Energy by Drake
I chose this song because it talks about all the hate in Drake’s life and it shows me what he’s been through. It makes me feel good about my life that I didn’t have to deal with these things. There’s many people in his life bringing him down but he just never stops. I also like the beat of this song and what it’s trying to convey. He says “Got a lot people tryna drain me of this energy.” This means people are trying to wear him down to of little or no importance, but it doesn’t stop Drake.
Last Breath by Future
I chose this song because I feel like it relates to me. There are times where I didn’t think people believed in me and Future experienced this with his Grandma. His Grandma didn’t like the idea of him having a rapping career. He didn’t listen and went on with the career. Future is able to tell his family that they should never have doubted him. I like the tune and word selection of this song because it makes it flow smoothly and it isn’t choppy.
On my Grind by Tunji Ige
I like this song because it shows that he’s always looking for success and staying “on my grind” to success and reach the top. I like how he visions different ways of being on his grind throughout the song including when he talks about skateboarding. Tunji Ige uses different words to emphasize things so it make it more of a mystery meaning and involves thinking. I like listening to this song for motivation to never stop.
Black Beatles by Rae Sremmurd
I chose this song because it talks about their fame throughout the story. It talks about themselves and things that have happened with them. This song has a meaning to it that relates to money and fame. It clearly shows the meaning throughout the song and flows the way it should. Rae Sremmurd shows that he has more money than many other people, even older than him.
In Da Club by 50 Cent
I picked this song because I like the way he kind of contradicts himself in the beginning of the song. He says it’s a girl’s birthday but then he says it isn’t and it’s just a form of language. 50 Cent is more successful than many other people which causes them to envy him. The lyrics of the song are strong words and have different meanings which makes it unique. This song is something I like listening to at any time.
Gucci Mane by Both
I chose this song because Gucci Mane has been arrested for multiple things and it helps me understand the reasons and what he was thinking during them. I also like Drake and in this song, Drake is featured so it intrigues me more than it would. He says that he normally does his bad things when he is drunk or high and not sober. Gucci has experienced many things and I enjoy being able to hear about them.
Bounce Back by Big Sean
I chose this song because it shows that he bounces back after something went wrong. It shows that people shouldn’t let one thing get in the way of the huge picture and that we just have to move on from the bad things in life. He also means that after the “L”, he will just be gaining more money and to look at the positives of that. He uses the number 10 is many different ways to differentiate his “beast modes.”
I like this mixtape because 2 of the songs were on my mixtape. Last Breathe which was my pump up song. Also the song Bounce Back by Big Sean related to me as well, where you have to bounce back from an L you take.
