Mixtape

AEDAN YOHANNAN

Heartless         By: Kanye West

I chose this song because it was the first hip hop song I had ever heard. Therefore I thought it would be a good way to start off the number one mixtape ever. The way Kanye uses the synth is able to grab anyone’s attention and is a unique part of the song. Along with Kanye’s genius lyrics he is able to turn anything into a masterpiece.

Light it Up (ft. 2 Chainz)       By: Big Sean

I chose this song because before any athletic game I listen to this song and pumps me up. It was on a collab album made for Kevin Hart at the beginning of this fall. I enjoy this song because gives me energy and makes me feel confident. There aren't any social issues addressed but it as a warm up song, it works.

Bucket List (ft. Matthew Santos)     By: Saba Pivot

I chose this song because whenever I feel sad or defeated I play this. It is by my favorite up and coming artist named Saba. The album the song is off of is called the Bucket list Project and it includes many uplifting and sentimental songs with good messages. This song features Matthew Santos who is also one of my favorite singers. He has done amazing vocals, featuring in songs like Superstar by Lupe Fiasco.

Blue Notes              By: Meek Mill

I chose this song because I feel like was brilliantly sampled and is able to get across a very clear message. The melody is sampled from Snowy White’s Midnight Blues. The beat and lyrics that are played over the sample sound amazing. This is my favorite Meek Mill song and I love the message about Meek supporting his friends and trying to help them whenever possible.

Location             By: Khalid

I chose this song because when I get home from school and sports It helps me to relax. This song is more R&B based but it is still able to be used as a song while chilling out. The song has heavy beat drops but has an upbeat undertone. Khalid is an artist who just graduated from high school and think he is going to be a huge hit.

One Day        By: Kid Ink

I chose this song because it is very inspiring to me. The song conveys an important message. The song tells of the struggle that Brian’s (kid ink) come up and how some people would do anything to have the fame and fortune that he has. The song is my favorite off of a mixtape in 2016. The song also has great production value.

What They Want          By: Russ

This song is from a breakout artist named Russ. After nine years Russ finally got a chance to join many different labels. This song was a reaction to how greedy and selfish recording labels are. The song hit over 3 million plays and was one of the best rap songs of mid 2016. I like the song because it shows the bravery of a rapper to take shots at big corporate companies.

Just a Moment            By: Nas

I chose this song because it has a message yet it keeps Nas’s personal touch. The song talks about how he saw many people growing up around him with many struggles. This song is meant to be a dedication to those people around him. Nas talks about how even though life goes on those people around him are important and remembered. Nas again does not fail at making brilliant lines to complement the message.

Chill Bill           By: Rob Stone

I chose this song for the mixtape because I feel like it has great production value. This song hit the top charts hard this fall and caught my eye. The melody and beat are unforgettable. The song quickly became one of my all time favorites. The song has just popped out of a breakout artist named Rob Stone.

The Show Goes On            By: Lupe Fiasco

I chose this song because it has always had deep meaning to me. Whenever I listen to music it is almost always the song I end with. The message in the song is very prominent. The message talks about how some kids in the world do not have it very well and we need to remember them. We need to keep them on our mind and appreciate what we have. Lupe also references how he was once in that situation and did not give up. This song shows to go hard work can accomplish anything.

  1. I like all of your songs and your reasons for each one because you get into deeper meanings. I also have never heard of the one day song by kid ink.
