10 Songs- Mixtape
1- Meek Mill: Lord Knows
- Lord Knows is a song written by Meek Mill regarding the use of religion in everyday life. The title says how the lord knows everything and he is watching everyone. Meek Mill goes on to say how you should go out and achieve your goals knowing that god is watching. Also he says don't do anything bad because the lord is watching and he will punish you for your wrong doing. I chose this song because it really sums up what my life is based upon, doing good things and doing anything to reach your goal. I base my life on going out and reaching that goal using everything that I have got and I feel like this song mimics that.
2- Russ: What They Want
- What They Want is a song written by Russ which is mainly about how people want everything and they will do everything to get it. The main thing that people really want is money, he keeps on saying how they want dollar signs which is money. Russ also says how being so hungry for money and goods is not a good thing and it can lead to bad things. This is similar to something my parents taught when I was young. They told me to never be greedy and to always give to the less fortunate. I feel that this song is a similar thing to that saying that you shouldn't be so greedy but to give to the less fortunate.
3- Weeknd: Reminder
- The song Reminder by Weeknd is a song about not forgetting who you are in life. The Weeknd makes it clear that he is not to be forgotten by his lyrics in this song. He says to not forget about where you came from and what you have accomplished in life. He also says to be true to yourself, never be someone that you really aren't. Weeknd really wants to tell people that even when you are down, just remember where you came from and the things you have done. That will remind you of the person that you are which is something that can motivate someone. People these days forget about their origins and that really change their life so when someone realizes how far they have come, it changes people. That is why I picked this song, there is a much larger meaning in this song which I think motivates people.
4- J Cole: Immortal
- This song called Immortal by J. Cole is a song that I think really moves some people especially those living in hard times. J. Cole is saying in this song is to never give up and to never stop what you are doing. Humans in this world aren’t really immortal, but they can think that which is what J. Cole is trying to say. Go out and achieve your goals knowing or thinking that you can't be stopped is the message that I think J. Cole is trying to convey. This especially goes to the people living in poverty or bad living conditions telling them to do something about their situation knowing that no one can stop you. I think this really blends in with my current life. My parents always told me never let anyone stop you from doing your best. This is very similar to what J. Cole is saying which is why I chose this song.
5- Hamilton/ Wiz Khalifia: Washingtons By Your Side
- This song is called Washington's By Your Side by Hamilton, But it is rapped by Wiz Khalifa. I think the main message that this song is trying to convey is that people are watching over you such as god and the president and other high ranking members of society. They are saying that you are protected to go and achieve your goals. I think the main thing that I like about this song is how they Washington is by your side. This means that they aren't just watching over you, but they are also going through the things that you are going through. I just think that this is a powerful topic and that people always pray to god during hard times hoping that he will be their for them.
6- 2 Chainz: Good Drank
- This song by 2 Chainz is about life and how it can be good, But it also can be bad. I feel like this whole song is a big paradox, he says that life is good yet also hard. This is why I like this song and I listen to it. Everyone in every life goes through hardships that they have to get through and that is what 2 Chainz is trying to say. Maybe if you are feeling overwhelmed and down, just know that everyone goes through this. That is what 2 Chainz is trying to say. I totally agree with this that life had many bumps along the way and you just have to work through it. That is why I put this song in my mixtape, for the reason that life can be hard and you just have to accept it.
7- Russ: Do It Myself
- I chose this song called Do It Myself by Russ because of a couple reasons. The first being the main idea of this song is that you aren't always going to have help from others, you have to get through it yourself. This is something that my parents always taught me. The fact that in life everything you do all comes back to you and others aren't always going to help you. Also I think it is very true how in life it is every man for themselves to make a living and be successful. No one helps each other to become successful, each individual has to work hard for themselves. That is why I like this song, it expresses some individuality which I think is a crucial part in life. That is why I chose this song to be in my mixtape.
8- J.Cole: Change
- I put this song called Change by J. Cole for a number of reasons. The first reason being that he is one of my favorite rappers and just an all round good person. I also really like all his songs he is always trying to convey a message which I think is awesome. I like what he is saying about change in this song, it really is super relatable and realistic. How growing up in a rough town and suffering losses really motivates people to change. The fact that he is speaking from his past life and how this is true makes this song so much better. That is why I put this song in my mixtape, because the meaning is so great.
9- The Weeknd: Six Feet Under
- I chose this song Six Feet Under by The Weeknd to be in my mixtape because I think the thought behind this song is very true. People in this world are very overwhelmed with work and everyday life. They are pretty much drowning or as The Weeknd says it “ They are Six Feet Under”. I can seriously relate to this song, how I want to do so many thing and buy so many things but I just can’t. The only thing that I can do is to motivate myself to go do good things that will better myself in the future. That is the main message is is trying to convey and that Is why I chose this song to be in my mixtape.
10- MadeInTyo: I Want
- This song written by MadeInTyo has a very large meaning that is compacted into a couple of words. Even though this song is very repetitive, I think that in those couple of words lies a huge meaning. When he keeps on saying “ I want it so im gon get it” tells me a number of things. The main thing being that in life if you want something, you should work your hardest to get that thing. Whether that thing is in school or in work or in life, just work your hardest to achieve it. That is why I think this song is so meaningful and that is why I put this into my mixtape.
I like Russ a lot too, I have not heard of some of these songs, I will have to check them out, but I like the artist.
