Lauren Hill-The miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Lost ones: She’s talking about both a breakup and un equal rights, talking about how her boyfriend made a mistake in breaking up with her,

EX factor: Still talking about a breakup or just loving someone, she still has love for him even though she knows it’s gonna end poorly,

To zion: this song is to her son who was very young when she wrote this, she loves her son very much even though she let her heart get in the way to have him she’s still happy that it happened

Doo Wop: talking to one of her friends who had a one night stand and never got a call back, she says that men should focus more on women than materialistic things, sampled on drake's draft day

Superstar: saying how hip hop used to come from the heart and mean something but now it doesn’t, talks about what she originally wanted to do which was sell 500 copies

Reflection:

Lauryn Hill’s The miseducation of Lauryn Hill was an amazing album, I believe that it was and still is so popular because of her mix of great vocals, to meaningful and great sounding rap bars. I noticed that she talks about men like some of the male rappers talk about women and I think that was cool and different. I also believe that this album was an influence to some of the rappers and singers we listen to today. For example near the end of Doo Wop there was a part where she kept repeating the words “Watch out, watch out, look out, look out”, and this part was taken and used as a sample for a popular song by Drake called draft day.
