Miseducation of Lauryn Hill- NOTES
Lost Ones-
- Aimed at her ex and how he lost one of the best women he would ever get
- The boyfriend= Wyclef Jean
- Wyclef Jean was one of her former bandmates
- She never opened up about the breakup until this song
Ex Factor-
- Again talking about Wyclef Jean
- Was aimed at Jean about why she was better
- She says that their relationship keeps making progress yet Jean keeps on doing things to disrupt it (this is referenced at the beginning of the Hook)
To Zion-
- Zion is Lauryn Hill's first son
- The song tells how Lauryn was worried about the pregnancy at first but when he was born it was one of the best things about her life
Doo Wop-
- Tells about how people shouldn't feel obligated to have certain necessities (that thing)
- Talks to both men and women
Superstar-
- Tells how when some artists become famous they don't treat their privilege well
- Tells how ambition to be famous can kill ambition
- Tells how some people are just in it for the money
Reflection:
While listening to this album I felt that Lauryn Hill was very good at hitting on subjects about fame and celebrity culture. She talked about Wyclef Jean and their relationship/breakup. She talked about materialism and fame along with where she comes from. Lauryn also made each and every song catchy with her hybrid rap/singing style. I feel like this album is able to make statements on many different issues and that it was done in amazing style.
