Where I'm from -Jackson Tuma

Jackson Tuma
Where I'm from

I'm from private schools and country clubs
Where lawyers, doctors and CEOs children are my acquaintances
Where athletics are important but school is more
I'm from all honors students and all american families
I'm from football fans throwing powder, playing music and going crazy for their classmates on fridays.
Where Acc and ivy league student athletes live minutes away
I'm from a place where people spend winter break in the bright hot sun
Where sports games are enjoyed from lower levels and box seats
And where sideline watching isn't just a Lil Uzi song, but a reality

I'm from a place where students stay up all night for simple quizzes
Where if you aren't going to a top 30 university you aren't that smart
And where the only way to be a successful athlete is to got to a ranked university
I'm from a place where “That state is not worth the 30 thousand dollars I pay for school”
I'm from a place where your expectations are shot up if your older sibling is a successful student or athlete
And where a 3.6 gpa at a top ranked high school  just won't get you where you want to go
Yes, I am very lucky where I live, but it is not as perfect as it seems.

  1. I like this piece, especially the second part because from an eye watching from a distance, our society can seem perfect but this points out all of the flaws in where we live and go to school.

  2. I really enjoyed reading this because it makes me feel exactly what you feel. Your descriptions and word choice really helped this piece. I like how you show that life isn't as simple as it seems.

  3. I like this post because it is all real. You speak about the life around you in most descriptive way possible. Also the end shows yeah I have all these things but its not perfect
