Shoes - Raina Kuzemka

The next thing I saw that made an impact on me was the shoes of the prisoners from the concentration camps. There were so many shoes it was incredible. All of these shoes were once worn on the feet of people who suffered these awful deaths. The fact that this part of these people was now right in front of me was just awful. These people who were killed in the concentration camps were robbed of everything, they couldn’t even have their own shoes. The fact that all of this happened because of who they were or what they believed in is just so upsetting. In the piles of shoes I saw shoes of men, women and children. There were some shoes that were so tiny. I could smell the leather which made it all seem so real. Instead of learning about the history it was right there in front of me.
