Andrew's mixtape

Drake’s Marvin’s Room
This is song is a great hip hop, song because it’s easy to relate to, Drake has jealousy and he can’t help his feelings and emotions. Although it’s pretty soft toned, it’s very powerful. The music and feel is undeniable and although the lyrics are not inspiring, they are about classic problems of love. There's dialogue in the song that makes the song seem like a conversation in which drake pours out his emotions. This song is classic and very mainstream, however it puts you in a reminiscent mood every time which is pretty rare in the hip hop world.

J. Cole’s Lost One’s

Although this song has much profanity, It’s mainly because how strong J. Cole stands on the issue of parents leaving their kids. Throughout the song he asks how can a man walk out on his sons and then his son does the same thing to his own kid when the dad hated his dad. The sad thing is this happens, and it’s hypocrisy. So many men leave women pregnant and then avoid the problem that their partner is pregnant. The song is a conversation between him and his wife about how he has to deal with her being pregnant. I like this song because it’s about a very real problem.

Chance the Rapper’s Same drugs

Chance the Rapper is one of my favorite artist because of his unique style and voice. In this song the phrase same drugs is a metaphor meaning we don’t do the same thing anymore, these lyrics are relatable because sometimes relationships get old and you can’t overcome the differences. The song is also very powerful, Chance booms his voice when he’s making a important lyric. This song, especially the last minute also makes you reminisce, “Don’t forget the happy thoughts”. It’s rarity of style and the metaphor make it a great song.

Drake’s Look What You’ve Done

This song is somewhat boring when you first hear it, although if you listen it’s a song entirely for Drake’s grandmother. I find it relatable because I have such a strong relationship with my grandmother, the lyrics show he wants to return the favor to his grandmother. This is something I will always want to do, find a way to repay my parents and grandmother. The song is so personal so it’s great to listen to when you're alone and it’s quiet around you.

Kanye West’s All Falls Down

I cannot relate much to this song. But many african american woman and men can, Kanye discusses the many stereotypes of “materialistic” african americans. But he admits some of them are too often true, and that white america set it up for African american’s to fail and they persuade them to make bad choices. The song is also rebellious to the police. Kanye makes it clear how he feels about the government and social issues.

Lil wayne's nightmares of The Bottom

This unlike some Lil wayne songs has a lot of meaning, Lil wayne stresses the struggle of being at the bottom, He remembers being broke at the bottom, now he's having nightmares of the struggle. However, he’s obviously very boastful now, he brags about how he’s now a king. However the bottom and being in poverty has taught him more than being rich, he’s learned to be tough, he’s going out for himself

Meek Mill’s Who You Around

This song from meek mill talks about how when he made it to the top, people started being fake friends to him, people tried to take advantage of him, so it’s important who you spend time with. Hence the title who you around, Meek learned not everything how it seems, not everybody who smiles is your friend. Although it’s [petty negative is realistic where he’s from.
He says God please remove my enemies from my life, and before he knows it he started losing friends, so people will do anything to get ahead.

Eminem’s Like toy Soldiers

Eminem relates his career now and his problems and hip hop to a battle, the song is kind of relatable although Eminem had a very tough life, I feel challenged to maintain my composure sometimes. Eminem talks about the streets as a war, he keeps seeing his friends and enemies drop dead, the song is pretty sad, It is a real struggle. However the rapping is as good as it gets, and the message of the fight on the streets is strong.

Drake’s Jungle

This is another love song by drake that gives you that reminiscent feel. Drake says he treats the people he cares about the most the worst. Sometimes I struggle with this too. The song has a cool beat and the voice of Drake is perfect, but the reflecting tone is what makes it so great.

J. Cole’s Born Sinner

J. Cole is thought of as one of the more real rappers, because he admits to his own mistakes. Hence the title Born Sinner, J. Cole says that we are all born sinners and that we all make mistakes. However we're not perfect and that's why we are perfect. He makes the whole album based on the fact that we are not perfect, he says “God already put his paintbrush on”, so we should not try to change our appearance.
