I chose the song
"Let Nas Down" by J Cole because it talks a lot about the high expectations, what your peers think of you and how people only see success as the numbers and not how you feel about what you did. The into to this song is also very powerful where he talks about crime and every time someone is killed, another kid is born and it's just a endless loop hole but then introduces the song as almost a story. Then in the song he talks about how he idolized Nas as a kid and still as an adult and the feelings when he meet him for the first time and learned he was a fan. After he talks about how he made the biggest hit song in his career when he was under the most pressure from the label and that even though he made a name and a killing with this song that he was still upset when Nas said he didn't like it and how that was more important than him shooting up the charts. I can relate to this because in school even if my grades are better than what they used to be my parents aren't usually happy which kills the joy of my improvement. He later talks about how the label would also only cares about the numbers and not if his fans like it. This relates to my life where people only care about how many points you had or if you got over a 90 on your test instead of did you lear or did you help your team win outside of the stats.
I think that J Cole is able to bring together being popular and getting a message across in most of his songs, this compares to my post where I write about Ville Mentality where he gets a message about his mindset.
