Where I'm From

Where I’m From

I ain’t never grow up rich but I ain’t never grow up broke
A lot of times it got hard but i ain’t never give up hope

Where I’m from it ain’t the hood but it ain’t really good
My mom told me be something in life, told her I would

Everyday I catch the bus I try to get home quick
Because my poor old grandma is at the home sick

Every time I see my grandma laying there I feel bad
Especially that I was only 5 when I lost my real dad

I live in a small neighborhood and yeah it's called darby
Good and bad things there are permanent in my head like a sharpie

My mom told me its not about the big rings its about the big wings
So I can fly away, get older and go big things

My parents taught me good manners and not to use profanity
That’s why i'm so thankful to go home to a good family

I can’t wait till I get older when everything is done, I won
But until then, that is where I am from

  1. This is a great poem, although it talks about struggle, it gives hope to the future ahead.

  2. I like this poem because you are very real about your situation. You state that you didn't have it great but it wasn't the worst and your grateful for that but there still are a lot of problems. You address your mom with the wisdom she has given you and express the hope for a future
