"Right My Wrongs" Bryson Tiller

I chose Bryson Tiller's "Right My Wrongs" because it explores a different perspective regarding relationships than is regularly displayed in hip-hop songs. Traditionally, or in my experience with modern hip-hop, artists, when writing and singing about relationships, tend to objectify their partner, or, as in the case of Big Sean's "I Don't Fuck With You," express their apathy towards their partner.  In "Right My Wrongs," Tiller confesses that he has lacked engagement in the relationship as his music career has gained success and popularity. He also recognizes the serious of the issues in their relationship and makes it clear that he believes these are problems they should resolve in person rather than over the phone. Not only does Tiller accept responsibly for the current issues he has caused in their relationship, but he also confesses to being the instigator of their previous problems. Although it is implied he was able to fix their previous problems and should know how to fix their new problems, in his lyrics he asks his partners to "tell me how to right my wrongs." Tiller's different and realistic efforts to rebuild his relationship are admirable and led to my decision to choose this song.
