In J Cole’s song Training day he starts it off about him being pathetic for buying a chain. I think he says this because he believes he’s being a stereotype for black people and that he spent so much money on it and it's just material. He talks so much about materialism and how it affects his life, especially when he says he brought cars and chains but he hasn’t even got a house yet. Another interesting topic he talks about is things change when you get money. I have seen this happen before. Once you make money all the girls try to be with you, old friends try to come in your life and some people even begin to hate on you and be jealous. That’s exactly what J cole talks about in this song. I like how J cole talks about the chains because he uses it in different ways. He can be talking about slavery chains and gold chains and being chained down by things such as money that can hold you back. This song also relates to another good song by J Cole called “ Be free” which talks about racism, chains, and stereotypes.
