Michael Zeng- Day 1- Kendrick Lamar: Alright

Kendrick Lamar: Alright

-       This song called “Alright” written by Kendrick Lamar is about a day in the life of a black person struggling to live in a society that is heavily influenced by stereotypes. I think that this is very relatable to people growing up in a rough community where violence and stereotypes is a huge thing. He also talks about black people being killed in the streets, which is relatable to the movement “Black Lives Matter”. This means that even though they are a different skin color and that they may looked to as bad people because of stereotypes, they still are humans and they deserved to be respected like everyone else. Also I think that religion is a very big piece in this song, Kendrick says that god is watching them and that they will be ok because god is watching. The power of religion is evident in this song because even though there is so much violence, they know that they will be ok because god is watching over them. Lastly the phrase “ We gon be alright” is a symbol for hope and that looking forward and looking at the good can be the difference between a good life and a terrible life.
